Oh yes, you read that title right! You must be thinking, how is it possible to alter your facial features without surgery?! Well, I was skeptical too but then again, with technology nowadays, anything is possible! Today, I will be sharing my secret on how I got a slimmer face without surgery or injectables.

A few weeks back, I was introduced to
Kowayo Aesthetics and had the wonderful opportunity to try out their treatments. Conveniently located, the cosy abode of Kowayo Aesthetics is a great place to pamper and rejuvenate yourself after a long week of hustling.

Slanted smile, slanted face, slanted everything when you do not take proper care post Botox!
I would count myself lucky to be blessed with a heart shape face. However, I love food... therefore my fat cheeks would always mask it all! Previously, I had done Botox for jawline reduction which was great, but the effect only lasted for a short span of 3 months. It was always a constant challenge to go back for a refill and plus, the cost of it do add up eventually. Even though it did cure my teeth grinding issues, I was also a victim of the "slanted smile", which could happen if you do not go to a skilled doctor or take proper aftercare. You can see from the image above, we took so many shots and EVERY SHOT was of me with my slanted smile because the wrong muscles were paralysed due to my bad aftercare. (PS: I went to bed 2 hours after the treatment because I was too tired. Rule of the day, DON'T get Botox at night!)

As such, I stopped my Botox injections after the effects wore out. My work schedule is definitely no match for the frequent injections. Kowayo Aesthetics heard my woes and recommended another alternative, HiQueen (HIFU) that has zero downtime and little to no side effects.

Consulting Dr Wong Kee Seng
Before proceeding with any treatments, you have to consult the doctor to see if you are a right candidate. My consultation with Dr Wong Kee Seng was really insightful as he shared many interesting points about HiQueen. I know I am still young but the signs of aging are definite on my body. My smile lines are getting deeper (because I love to laugh!) and the skin around my neck have already showed signs of sagging. I specifically chose this photo because it shows a great example of my side profile with all the ageing issues that I was talking about earlier. You can't escape ageing, but you sure can delay it.

So What Is HIQUEEN?

Picture
HiQueen is actually a non-surgical facelift that originated from the aesthetic wonderland, Korea. Using the technology of HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound), it counteracts the effects of time and gravity by stimulating collagen production to gradually lift the skin. In layman's terms, it is kinda like redbull for your skin's collagen factory, jumpstarting it and pushing them to work harder so that you can look younger!

<FOR GEEKS LIKE ME>
The use of ultrasound energy enables HiQueen to target depths unmatched to any other non-invasive treatments. The focused ultrasound energy converts to an optimal thermal energy that is conducive for neocollagenesis (collagen production). As such, you can expect gradual improvement in the skin over a period of 2-3 months. Imagine looking younger and more beautiful as time passes, that is what HIQUEEN is designed for.

MY EXPERIENCE

I was pretty excited to get the green light for HiQueen as I did have some ongoing breakouts along my chin. We started off by removing my foundation (except my forehead). I would assume that there is nothing to lift on my forehead because it is just SO HUGE, it doesn't need any help at all.

Dr Wong treated one side of my face first so that I could see the immediate difference. The first round of shots were targeted at 4.5mm to the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) layer of the skin. The intensity and depth is customised according to your tolerance and parts of the face. I had two rounds in total with the second being shot at 3mm at an intensity of 1.0.

Although it is said that the lifting effect takes time, mine was pretty instantaneous and the results even got better as the weeks went by. My right is my face before any treatment and if you look closely, you would a slight droop on the lower third of my cheeks as illustrated. Just after one round, the left side looks slimmer and there is a natural curve which mimics the perfect oval shape face.

Does It Hurt?

Picture
Ya know when the say a picture speaks a thousand words? Well, this one sums it all. My pain tolerance is very high so honestly, this feels like nothing. Even Dr Wong was appalled that I am actually laughing during the treatment.

To be honest, there is no pain BUT you will feel a stinging sensation in the deeper layers on your face. It is difficult to describe but the feeling is more of a numbing discomfort than the pain from a superficial cut. It is definitely more sensitive along the lower part of the jaw and neck as the skin tends to be thinner around those areas.

Is There Downtime?

As HiQueen utilises ultrasound energy, it penetrates deeper into the skin therefore you will only expect slight redness as pictured above. You can still go about putting on makeup immediately after the treatment to conceal the slight redness. Typically, the redness will dissipate in a couple of hours so you need not worry about downtime. The only thing that will linger is the numbing discomfort around the jaws which may last for about a week or so. HiQueen is extremely suitable as a lunch-time quickie treatment for that surge of youth.

Overall Thoughts

1 Week Post-Treatment
I. LOVE. IT!
Above is an unedited selfie of me before treatment and 1 week post treatment. The jawline looks significantly lifted and tighter compared to before. My droopy cheeks woes are gone and am left with a taut V-shape face without any downtime. What stood out most for me was how HiQueen managed to diminish my smile lines without the use of any injectables. I had many people coming up to me and asking if I had lost weight or did something because my face looked slimmer and younger in just a short span of a week!

I took this during my trip to Europe (2 weeks post-treatment) so pardon my acne outbreak. My skin is definitely acting up due to the change of environment.

However, did you notice how visibly lifted my cheeks & neck are from the side? My skin looks taut and smooth. All signs of ageing were reduced due to the constant remodelling of the skin structure induced by HiQueen.

Before & After (1 Month Post-Treatment)
The before and after shows a drastic difference in my appearance in just one month. Previously, my skin looked sallow and my smile lines were distinct. Now, due to the increased collagen production, my skin has remodelled itself to help make my features look younger and lifted.

The results are expected to get better so I am really excited to see the full potential of this session of
HiQueen! The results differ from person to person but for maintenance, I did purchase a bag of collagen pills from Watsons just to enhance the effects of the treatment. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the results and am so happy that I no longer have to deal with a slanted smile!

Initial Interval: 4-6 Weeks

Note: Most people would only require a single session but it is best to consult the doctor as different people have different skin laxity & collagen building process.

Thank you Kowayo Aesthetics, Dr SK Wong & GotIdeas for having me. Hope you guys enjoyed taking a peek into the aesthetics part of my life. I'm so thankful and happy to be able to share all of these with you.

For those of you that are contemplating on any forms of aesthetic treatments, remember, do it only for yourself and not anyone else. Should your decision be influenced by another, please ponder about it. Ultimately, it is your life and you should be in control of it. With or without any forms of enhancement, I am sure that everyone of you are beautiful. I have always stressed that beauty is skin deep and we should all work towards being beautiful from the inside and out. Be beautiful, be you! Sending love to everyone of you, thank you for sticking with me and hope this post has help you in some form or another! Have a good one.

xx
